Sergeant Major, 3d Battalion 11th Marines
Sergeant Major Travis L. DeBarr

Sergeant Major DeBarr enlisted in the Marine Corps and reported to MCRD San Diego, CA, for recruit training in October 1994. In December, he graduated with honors and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Private First Class. After completing Marine Combat Training, he reported to MATSG-90 in Millington, TN, for basic aviation electronics training and graduated in September 1995.

After completion of H-1 specific avionics training at MCAS Camp Pendleton, CA, he reported to El Toro Search & Rescue at MCAS El Toro, CA, in April 1996. While attached to Search & Rescue, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

In June of 1998, Sergeant DeBarr was transferred to MCAS Camp Pendleton where he reported to HMLA-369. In January 2000, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan for HMLA-369 UDP. While deployed to Japan, Sergeant DeBarr was attached to HMM-262, 31st MEU REIN.

In October 2000, Sergeant DeBarr was assigned to Drill Instructor School, MCRD San Diego, CA. Sergeant DeBarr graduated from Drill Instructor School in December 2000. After graduation, Sergeant DeBarr was assigned to Golf Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion. While serving with Golf Company, Sergeant DeBarr completed eight platoons, serving as a Senior Drill Instructor for three of them. Staff Sergeant DeBarr was promoted Staff Sergeant in May 2001. After completing his time in Golf Company, Staff Sergeant DeBarr was assigned to Officer Candidates School, Quantico, VA, as a Sergeant Instructor. Staff Sergeant DeBarr completed two platoons as a Sergeant Instructor. After completing his platoons at OCS, he returned back to MCRD San Diego, CA, and was assigned as the 2nd Recruit Training Battalion Drill Master in August 2003. Staff Sergeant DeBarr served as the Drill Master until February 2005.

In February 2005, Staff Sergeant DeBarr was assigned HMLA-369. Staff Sergeant DeBarr completed two combat tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from September 2005 to April 2006 and again form March 2007 to September 2007. Staff Sergeant DeBarr was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in August 2007.

In June 2008, GySgt DeBarr was assigned to as a Faculty Advisor/Instructor SNCOA Career Course, Camp Pendleton, CA. While serving at the academy, GySgt DeBarr completed 12 classes in the Career Course, serving as Chief Instructor for five. GySgt DeBarr also completed five classes in the Advanced Course, serving as Chief Instructor for three. GySgt DeBarr was certified as a Master Instructor in December 2010. GySgt DeBarr was selected to his First Sergeant in December 2010 and frocked to First Sergeant in January 2011 in preparation for his PCS transfer to Camp Lejeune, NC.

In May 2011, First Sergeant DeBarr was assigned and transferred to 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines, Camp Lejeune, NC. While serving with 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines, First Sergeant DeBarr was assigned as the Kilo Company First Sergeant and completed one combat deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, from October 2012 to May 2013. In August 2013, First Sergeant attended the Senior Enlisted PME in Quantico, VA.

In September 2013, First Sergeant DeBarr was assigned and transferred to Camp Pendleton, CA, to serve with the 5th Battalion, 11th Marines. Sergeant Major DeBarr was selected to his current rank in November 2015 and was assigned as the Battalion Sergeant Major, Advanced Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry-West.
In May 2018, SgtMaj DeBarr was re-assigned to his current billet, as the 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines Sergeant Major, Twentynine Palms, Ca.

Sergeant Major DeBarr’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal w/1 gold star, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/2 gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/1 gold star and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
