Sergeant Major Donald K. Williams

Sergeant Major Donald K. Williams was born and raised in Burlington, North Carolina. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1990 and in May 1990, he reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, for training with Third Battalion.

In August 1990, Sergeant Major Williams reported to Marine Combat Training at Camp Gieger, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In September 1990, he reported to Military Police School, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.  Upon graduation, he received orders to Service Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan.

In December 1991, Sergeant Major Williams was transferred to Military Police Company, Security Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California. In August 1993, he was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant. While assigned to Security Battalion, he served as a patrolman and a traffic accident investigator. In July 1994, Sergeant Major Williams volunteered for drill instructor duty, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California where he served as drill instructor for Alpha Company, First Battalion and as combat weapons instructor, Weapons Field Training Battalion. In July 1996, Sergeant Major Williams was transferred to Military Police Department, Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina for duty as traffic chief.

In June 1997, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and reassigned as watch commander.  In April 1998, Sergeant Major Williams was transferred to Marine Air Wing Support Group 27, Cherry Point, North Carolina and assigned as the staff noncommissioned officer in charge of the air base ground defense course. In May 1999, Sergeant Major Williams was transferred to Military Police Company, Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii where he served as platoon commander. In June 2000, he was assigned as the training chief for Headquarters Battalion. In June 2001, he transferred back to Military Police Company to serve as traffic chief.  In October 2001, he was promoted to gunnery sergeant.

In May 2002, Sergeant Major Williams reported to Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps, Hampton Roads Consortium, Norfolk, Virginia for duty as the assistant Marine officer instructor.

In May 2004, Sergeant Major Williams was transferred to Alpha Company, 2d Military Police Battalion, 2d Marine Logistics Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for duty as platoon sergeant. In August 2004, Sergeant Major Williams deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).

In March 2005, he was promoted to the First Sergeant and reassigned to Charlie Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion. In October 2005, Sergeant Major Williams was reassigned to Service Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 27 where he deployed from February 2007 to February 2008 in support of OIF 06-08.

In March 2008, Sergeant Major Williams was assigned to Headquarters Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 2 until his selection to Sergeant Major. In April 2009, Sergeant Major Williams was transferred to Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California and assumed the duties as the First Battalion Sergeant Major. In January of 2011, Sergeant Major Williams was transferred to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines.

Sergeant Major Williams’ personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal Gold Star in lieu of second award, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Gold Star in lieu of third award, and the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Gold Star in lieu of fourth award.
