Lieutenant Colonel Mike Wilonsky was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1994. After completing The Basic School, he was designated as an infantryman and was assigned to the Infantry Officers Course, Quantico, VA. After graduation, Second Lieutenant Wilonsky was assigned to Echo Company, 2d Battalion 4th Marines as the Second Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer, and deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit(MEU).
Captain Wilonsky was assigned to the Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry where he served as the Charlie Company Commander and also as the Tactics Officer until he was assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force’s Special Operations Training Group, where he served as the Assistant Special Missions Branch Head.
Captain Wilonsky was then assigned to 2d Battalion 3rd Marines at Kaneohe Bay, HI where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer and Golf Company Commander. Capt Wilonsky deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom(OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom(OIF) and also with the 31st MEU.
Major Wilonsky was assigned to Security Force Battalion at Kings Bay, GA as the Executive Officer and then assigned to 1st Battalion, 9th Marines in Camp Lejeune, NC. During this period, Major Wilonsky deployed to Ar Ramadi, Iraq in support of OIF and also deployed to Haiti in support of humanitarian relief operations, and back to the Middle East with the 24th MEU in support of OEF.
Lieutenant Colonel Wilonsky was assigned to United States Special Operations Command in Tampa, FL as a strategic planner and also as a partner nation engagement team leader where he deployed to the Middle East numerous times in support of global special operations.
Lieutenant Colonel Wilonsky assumed duties as the 1st Marine Division Current Operations Officer (COPSO). As COPSO, he managed the day-to-day operations of the 25,000 Marines and Sailors preparing to deploy, currently deployed, and those returning from deployment.
On 7 March, 2014 Lieutenant Colonel Wilonsky returned to where it all began, taking command of 2d Battalion 4th Marines.
His personal awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medals and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement Medals.
