Sergeant Major, 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion
SgtMaj E. Roacho

Sergeant Major Roacho is from Los Angeles California. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on September 2003 and graduated from MCRD, San Diego. Upon completion of School of Infantry. he received the primary Military Occupational Specialty of 0331, Infantry Machine gunner, and received orders to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division.

In May 2004, Private First Class Roacho deployed as a .50 Cal machine gunner in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Private First Class Roacho participated in the battle of Al Najaf and Operation Phantom Fury in Fallujah Iraq.

In February 2005, Lance Corporal Roacho deployed as a gunner and vehicle commander on the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In December 2007, Corporal Roacho reported to 1st Marine Regiment FMF HQ CO and was assigned as the HQ Platoon Sergeant.

In June 2008, Sergeant Roacho received orders to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California, Class 4-08. Upon completion, Sergeant Roacho reported to Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, and served in the billets of Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor.

In January 2012, Sergeant Roacho was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, where he served as both the Machine Gun Section Leader and the Platoon Sergeant. Throughout his time with this unit, he deployed twice: first as part of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and again with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. During these deployments, he participated in various training missions in East Timor, the Philippines, Okinawa, Djibouti, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. While in this assignment, he successfully graduated from the Scout Swimmer Course and the Infantry Unit Leader Course.

In July 2015, Staff Sergeant Roacho reported to Marine Combat Instructors Course class 4-15. Staff Sergeant Roacho was appointed to Marine Combat Training Battalion, Kilo Company after graduating. In March 2016, Staff Sergeant Roacho received orders to Advance Infantry Training Battalion, Infantry Unit Leaders Training Company, where he served as a combat instructor and chief instructor at the Advance Machine Gun Leaders Course.

In July 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Roacho received orders to the Marine Corps Training Mission in the United Arab Emirates. He served as a Marine Advisor to the school commander at the Presidential Guard Institute. He also took on the role of Operations Chief for the Marine Corps Training Mission in the United Arab Emirates.

In September 2020, Gunnery Sergeant Roacho was assigned to 1st Intelligence Battalion and served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant and Operations chief for Battlespace Surveillance Company. In October 2021 Gunnery Sergeant Roacho received orders to I Marine Expeditionary Force Support Battalion and served as the Combat Service Support Company First Sergeant.

In February 2022, First Sergeant Roacho was promoted and assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, where he served as the Company First Sergeant for India Company. He participated in the Marine Rotational Force Darwin deployment to Australia. After returning from deployment, First Sergeant Roacho attended the Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy and graduated as a distinguished graduate of Class 24A.

In January 2024, First Sergeant Roacho received orders to the Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team Company in Bahrain, where he served as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader. During this time, he participated in numerous military training exercises, embassy engagements, and real-world operations throughout the United States Central Command area of operation.

In March 2025, Sergeant Major Roacho received orders to 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Twentynine Palms, CA, where he currently serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major.
