Sergeant Major, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines
SgtMaj Aaron Diaz

Sergeant Major Diaz was born on 18 November 1984 in El Paso, Texas. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 8 September 2003 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California and was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class. Sergeant Major Diaz attended Marine Combat Training School (MCT) at Camp Pendleton, California. Following MCT he reported to Maintenance Administration School in Meridian M.S. where he received the MOS of 6046.
 
In April 2004, Sergeant Major Diaz reported to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 268 (HMM-268), Third Marine Aircraft Wing, Camp Pendleton, California. Sergeant Major Diaz was promoted to Lance Corporal in August 2004. While attached to HMM-268 Sergeant Major Diaz deployed to Al Taqqadum, Iraq in support of OIF in August 2004. Sergeant Major Diaz was meritoriously promoted to Corporal in March 2005 and served as the squadron guide and organizational color sergeant. In February 2006 Sergeant Major Diaz deployed to Al Taqqadum, Iraq in support of OIF 6-8.1. While assigned to his parent command Sergeant Major Diaz served as the Squadron Data Analyst, training NCO, and was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant in May 2006. In September 2007, Sergeant Major Diaz deployed again to Al Taqqadum, Iraq in support of OEF.
 
In June 2008, Sergeant Major Diaz was reassigned to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron Three, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, California where he served as the Wing Data Analyst and Maintenance Administration Clerk.
 
In October 2009, Sergeant Major Diaz received orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego California and served as a Drill Instructor with Golf Company, Second Recruit Training Battalion. On March 2010, Sergeant Major Diaz was promoted to Staff Sergeant. He further served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor.
 
In April 2013, Sergeant Major Diaz received orders to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14 (MALS-14), Second Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina and served as the Logs and Records Chief.
 
In June 2013, Sergeant Major Diaz was reassigned to Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Training Squadron 1 (VMAQT-1), Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina. While assigned to his parent command Sergeant Major Diaz held the billets as the Aircraft Maintenance Data Specialist Chief and Squadron Gunnery Sergeant.
 
In May2015, Sergeant Major Diaz was reassigned to the University of Memphis Naval ROTC, and served as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor and Senior Enlisted Advisor. In October 2015 he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.
 
In August 2018, Sergeant Major Diaz received orders to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36 (MALS-36), Marine Aviation Group 36, First Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan and served as the Aircraft Maintenance Data Specialist Staff Non-Commission Officer in Charge.
 
In January 2019, Sergeant Major Diaz was reassigned to Marine Medium Tilt Rotor Squadron 262 (VMM-262), Marine Aviation Group 36, First Marine Air Wing, Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Aircraft Maintenance Data Specialist Chief and Squadron Gunnery Sergeant. During his time with VMM-262, Sergeant Major Diaz deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. In July 2020, Sergeant Major Diaz was promoted to First Sergeant. 
 
In August 2020, Sergeant Major Diaz was reassigned to 7th Communications Battalion, Third Marine Information Group, Third Marine Expeditionary Force where he served as the Alpha Company First Sergeant.
 
In July 2021, Sergeant Major Diaz received orders to Marine Corps Detachment, Goodfellow Air Force Base where he served as the Detachment First Sergeant for Signal Intelligence and Expeditionary Firefighting and Rescue.
 
In May 2025 Sergeant Major Diaz was promoted to his current rank and received orders to 1st Battalion 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton California where he and currently serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. Sergeant Major Diaz is Married to the former Laci Marie McCollumn of Wichita Kansas, they have two kids, their son Roen and daughter Emme.
 
Sergeant Major Diaz graduated from Park University with a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Leadership. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, with two gold stars in lieu of third award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award.
