Commanding Officer, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines
LtCol C. D. DeVries

Lieutenant Colonel Christopher deVries, a native of Washington State, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in February of 2008.

Upon graduation from The Basic School and Infantry Officer’s Course, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment in Camp Pendleton, California. During his tour, LtCol deVries deployed in support of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as a Rifle Platoon Commander and the 31st MEU as a Combined Anti-Armor Team Platoon Commander. Between deployments he completed the Army’s Reconnaissance Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

In April of 2012 he received orders to Fort Moore, Georgia, to attend the Army’s Maneuver Career Captain’s Course. Upon graduation, LtCol deVries completed Basic Airborne School and received orders to Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, Bangor, in April 2013, where he served as a Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Company Commander conducting strategic weapons security.

LtCol deVries assumed command of Weapons Company, 3d Battalion, 1st Marines in March of 2016 and deployed in support of Forward Deployed Battalion (FDB) – West 17-1. In August of 2017, he assumed duties as Inspector-Instructor for Company B, 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment and in July of 2018 transitioned to Assistant Battalion Inspector-Instructor and Operations Officer of 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment aboard Ft. Devens, Massachusetts. From June 2019 to June 2020, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines was mobilized, conducted Intermediate Location Training aboard Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, and forward deployed in support of FDB – West 20-1.

From July of 2020 to July of 2023, LtCol deVries was assigned to the Russia Strategic Initiative Joint Directorate at United States European Command where he informed the DoD’s approach to Russia.

From August of 2023 to July of 2024 he served at Training Command, United States Marine Corps as the Training Command G-7 and Marine Corps Center for Learning and Faculty Development Director working to modernize learning and advance instructor professionalization.

In August 2024 he reported to I Marine Expeditionary Force and served as the Deputy Current Operations Officer before assuming his current billet in January 2025 as the Commanding Officer of 2d Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment.
