Sergeant Major, Fire Support Battalion
SgtMaj Julian Muñoz

Sergeant Major Muñoz enlisted on January 2003, into the United States Marine Corps and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon completion of recruit training, he attended Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. After MCT, he reported to Utilities Instruction Company, Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, as a Hygiene Equipment Operator, where he was promoted to the rank of Private First Class (PFC). He then received orders to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California.

In September 2004, PFC Muñoz received Temporary Additional Duty assignment to 4th Military Police at Camp Margarita, 22 Area, Camp Pendleton, California. He deployed in October 2004 through March 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving as a gunner for the Quick Reaction Force. During this time frame, PFC Muñoz was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal (LCpl). In August 2005, LCpl Muñoz received orders to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group (3rd FSSG), Okinawa, Japan, where he was promoted to the rank of Corporal (Cpl). From February 2006 through September 2006, Cpl Muñoz deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Utilities Section Non-Commissioned Officer-in-Charge. Cpl Muñoz was then promoted to the rank of Sergeant (Sgt) and again deployed from August 2007 through April 2008 to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, as the Platoon Sergeant.

In August 2008, Sgt Muñoz received orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron 271, Cherry Point, North Carolina. He deployed from March 2009 through September 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he served as the detachment Staff Non-Commissioned Officer-in-Charge. Upon returning, he reported to Drill Instructor School at MCRD, San Diego, California, where he was subsequently assigned to Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion.  Sgt Muñoz was then promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSgt). During his tour at MCRD, he served as a Drill Instructor, Operations Chief, and Senior Drill Instructor.

In April 2014, SSgt Muñoz received orders to Engineer Maintenance Company, 3rd Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment-35 aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. During this time, he served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant. In April 2016, SSgt Muñoz reported to Officer Candidates School, Training Command, Quantico, Virginia. SSgt Muñoz was then promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt). During his tour at Officer Candidates School, he served as a Sergeant Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, and Company Gunnery Sergeant. 

In September 2019, GySgt Muñoz received orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron 171, Iwakuni, Japan. During this time, he served as the Airfield Operations Company First Sergeant. In September 2019, GySgt Muñoz was then promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and received orders to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, 3d Marine Division, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, serving as the Kilo Company First Sergeant and executing (2) Unit Deployment Program tours to Okinawa Japan. Upon returning, 1stSgt Muñoz served as the Battalion Sergeant Major until the unit was deactivated. 

In July 2023, 1stSgt Muñoz received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 5, Camp Pendleton, California, serving as the Headquarters and Service Company 1stSgt. 1stSgt Muñoz executed a Unit Deployment Program tour in support of Marine Rotational Force – Darwin 24.3. 

In December 2024, 1stSgt Muñoz was frocked to the rank of Sergeant Major and subsequently executed orders to Fire Support Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California.
