Colonel Frerichs was born on 19 March 1981 in Springfield, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and was commissioned in 2003 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) program.
Following commissioning, Second Lieutenant Frerichs attended The Basic School and the Infantry Officer Course in Quantico, Virginia. He was subsequently assigned to 2d Battalion, 1st Marines (2/1) at Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Commanding Officer of Headquarters and Support Company. During this tour, he completed a WESTPAC deployment with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and a deployment to Okinawa with the 31st MEU.
In 2008, Captain Frerichs reported to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia, where he served as the Weapons Platoon Commander, Instructor Battalion, and as a Weapons and Tactics Instructor at the Infantry Officer Course.
In 2011, Captain Frerichs reported to 2d Battalion, 5th Marines (2/5) at Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as the Commanding Officer of Company E and deployed to Afghanistan in 2012. From 2013 to 2014, Major Frerichs served as the Battalion Landing Team Operations Officer for 2/5 and deployed to Okinawa with the 31st MEU.
In June 2014, Major Frerichs departed 2/5 to attend the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, earning a Master of Military Studies upon graduation in 2015.
From 2015 to 2018, Major Frerichs served as the Commanding Officer of Recruiting Station San Francisco. He then attended the School of Advanced Warfighting from 2018 to 2019.
From 2019 to 2022, Major Frerichs served as a Plans Officer with U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Europe and Africa in Stuttgart, Germany.
From 2022 to 2023, Lieutenant Colonel Frerichs served as the District Operations Officer for the 1st Marine Corps District in Garden City, New York.
From 2024 to 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Frerichs served as the Commanding Officer of 3d Battalion, 1st Marines.
From 2025 to 2026, Colonel Frerichs served as the Future Operations Officer for I Marine Expeditionary Force.
Colonel Frerichs’ personal decorations include: Bronze Star Medal with combat distinguishing device, Meritorious Service Medal with four Gold Stars, Combat Action Ribbon with Gold Star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with combat distinguishing device.
Colonel Frerichs is married to the former Lisa Snyder of O’Fallon, Illinois. Together, they have two boys and one girl: Wesley (age 10), Zachary (age 8), and Emmy (age 5).
