LtCol Onischuk hails from Minnesota and was commissioned in 2006.
His Fleet Marine Force service includes platoon command at 1st Bn, 5th Marines, company command at 1st Bn, 1st Marines, and plans officer at 3d Marine Aircraft Wing.
His supporting establishment tours include instructor duty at The Basic School and the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY.
He is a graduate of The Infantry Officers Course, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course, Expeditionary Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the School of Advanced Warfighting.
He assumed command of the battalion in December 2023.
