Sergeant Major, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines
SgtMaj M. G. Cleveland

Sergeant Major Cleveland currently serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major of 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment. A native from
Atlanta, Georgia, he attended Marine Corps Recruit Depot Paris Island, SC in June 2000.


Throughout his career, Sergeant Major Cleveland has been assigned numerous duties to include watch stander, Corporal of the Guard,
Sergeant of the Guard, Assistant Section Chief, Infantry Team Leader, Infantry Squad Leader, Infantry Platoon Sergeant, Drill
Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival, Marine Combat Instructor Trainer of Water Survival,
Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival Course SNCOIC, Mountain Warfare Instructor, MWTC Formal Schools SNCOIC,
MWTC Company Gunnery Sergeant/Company First Sergeant, SOI-West, ITB, Bravo Company Gunnery Sergeant, Company First
Sergeant for Charlie Company, 1st Reconnaissance Bn and the Maritime Raid Force and Command Element, 13th MEU,
Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant for Transportation Services Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 25 and Battalion Sergeant Major
for 1st Combat Engineer Battalion.


He has deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with 3d bn, 2nd Marines (2003), twice to Djibouti, Africa in Support of
Operation Enduring Freedom with 3d bn, 2nd Marines (2003 & 2004), Helmand Province in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom
with 2d bn, 3rd Marines (2010), Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan with 2d bn, 3rd Marines (2012) and the 13th MEU
(2019).


His personal awards include Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Navy/Marine Corps
Achievement Medal with four gold stars, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and the 2016 Jerry
Coleman Award presented by the Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation.


Sergeant Major Cleveland holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Aeronautics with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University, a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership with Brandman University and a Master of Science in Management with
Human Resource concentration with Excelsior College.
