Sergeant Major Johnson was born on 15 July 1983 in Los Angeles, California. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 10 April 2006. He attended recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. After graduating recruit training, he attended Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Pendleton, California. Following completion of MCT he attended MOS school at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, 29 Palms for Ground Communications Technician Electronics Course (2844).
In November 2006, Sergeant Major Johnson was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. In February 2007, Sergeant Major Johnson graduated from Ground Communications Technician Electronics Course as the Honor graduate and received orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron 372 Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as a Radio Technician.
In July 2007, Sergeant Major Johnson was promoted to the rank of Corporal. In August 2007, he deployed with Marine Wing Support Squadron 372, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In July 2009, Sergeant Major Johnson was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In August 2009, he deployed to Afghanistan with Marine Wing Support Squadron 372, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In December 2010, Sergeant Major Johnson received orders to Drill Instructor School Class 2-11, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. In April 2011 Sergeant Major Johnson was meritoriously promoted to his current rank of Staff Sergeant. In February 2012 Sergeant Major Johnson received orders to Ground Communication Maintenance Chief Course in 29 Palms, CA. Sergeant Major Johnson graduated Ground Communication Maintenance Chief Course (2862) as the honor graduate.
In December 2012 Sergeant Major Johnson received orders to 1st Battalion 5th Marines. Upon his arrival the unit was deployed, and Sergeant Major Johnson attached to 2nd Battalion 5th Marines for duty as Headquarters and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant. In April 2013 Sergeant Major Johnson reported back to 1st Battalion 5th Marines for duty as the Headquarters and Service Company, Communication Platoon, Maintenance Chief. In March 2014 Sergeant Major Johnson deployed with 1st Battalion 5th Marines as part of Marine Rotational Force- Darwin. In September of 2015 Sergeant Major Johnson deployed again with 1st Battalion 5th Marines as part of the Battalion Landing Team of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
In April of 2016 Sergeant Major Johnson received orders to Marine Special Operations Command as a Special Operations Capable Specialist Communicator for 2d Marine Raider Battalion. January of 2020 Sergeant Major Johnson Deployed with Marine Special Operations Company Hotel as the Communications Chief for Special Operations Task Force North in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. In November of 2020 Sergeant Major Johnson received orders to Marine Raider Regiment to serve as the Regimental Maintenance Chief and Communications Operations Chief. In December of 2021 Sergeant Major Johnson was selected to Sergeant Major and received order back to 2d Marine Raider Battalion to serve in Marine Special Operations Company India as the Sergeant Major and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Upon returning from a successful deployment Sergeant Major Johnson took over as the Headquarters and Service Company Sergeant Major. In May of 2024 Sergeant Major Johnson received orders to 1st Marine Raider Battalion as the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant. In January of 2025 Sergeant Major Johnson was promoted to his current rank and received orders to 3d Battalion 7th Marines as the Battalion Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Johnson personal decorations are Meritorious Service Medal (x2), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal(x3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (x2), Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal (x4).
