Biography
Commanding Officer, 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion
LtCol D. R. Petronzio

LtCol Petronzio attended Officer Candidate school through the NROTC program after graduating from the
Virgina Military Institute in May 2006. After graduating from TBS in March 2007 Second Lieutenant
Petronzio attended the Assault Amphibian Officers Course and reported to follow on duty at 2d Assault
Amphibian Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC.

Second Lieutenant Petronzio deployed as a platoon commander with 4th AA Bn, 4th Marine Division to Iraq and on returning First Lieutenant Petronzio deployed as the AAV platoon commander for BLT 1/9, 24th MEU. Captain Petronzio then received orders to Combat Assault Company, 3d Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division and served as the Company Commander for three years. During this time Captain Petronzio deployed with V1/3 to Afghanistan with the majority of his company and supported multiple Indo/Pacific exercises. Captain Petronzio then attended EWS in Quantico, Virginia and received orders to the AAV School house. Captain Petronzio was the Training and Instructor Company Commander followed by promotion in June of 2016 to Major. Upon promotion Major Petronzio became the Operations Officer for the School house and was soon in receipt of orders to the US Army's Command and General Staff Officers Course for the class of 2018.


In June of 2018 Major Petronzio received orders to 2d AA Bn, 2d Marine Division. This was followed by a
deployment as a Brigade Advisor Team Lead and an LNO to NATO-Special Operations Component Command
Afghanistan (NSOCC-A) as a member of Task Force Southwest. Upon completion of the deployment Major
Petronzio returned to duties as the Executive Officer, 2d AA Bn. He then PCS'd to Camp Pendleton and is
became the Executive Officer for the Assault Amphibian School House. LtCol Petronzio was then selected for
Command of 3D Assault Amphibian Battalion.
