1stSgt A. Shvartsberg

Artur Shvartsberg was born in Kishinev, Moldova and immigrated to Brooklyn, NY at the age of 7. He enlisted in May 2006 and underwent recruit training with Company D, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island.

In August 2006, First Sergeant Shvartsberg completed Marine Combat Training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and reported to the Defense Information School at Fort Meade, Maryland for the Basic Lithographers Course. Upon completion of his MOS training, he received orders to Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego to fill the billet of a combat photographer.

First Sergeant Shvartsberg reported to the Headquarters Battalion, 1stMarine Divisionin January of 2009where he would serve as acombat photographer and combat camera chief. He was then transferred to 1stBattalion, 5thMarine Regiment where he deployed as a combat photographer to Nawa District, Afghanistan. Shortly after his return, First Sergeant Shvartsberg was transferred to 3rd, Battalion, 5thMarine Regiment where he deployed again as a combat photographer and team leader to Sangin, Afghanistan in support of OEF. Upon his return, he was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant and was transferred back to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division where he supported multiple training exercises in CONUS and OCONUS.

First Sergeant Shvartsberg reported to Marine Aviation Weapons & Tactics One (MAWTS-1)in May 2014where he would serve as the combat camera chief. He documented seven Weapons and Tactics Instructor Courses during his tenure in the combat camera chief billet and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in 2015.

In May 2017, First Sergeant Shvartsberg was assigned to 1stMarine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa Japan where he servedas the COMMSTRAT Chief and the COMMSTRAT Operations Chief for the consolidated Combat Camera facility. There he supported major MEF and MEB level exercisesin the INDOPACOM area of operations. In 2018, he was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant andwent to graduate from the SNCOA Advanced School as the class Ironman and the distinguished graduate.

First Sergeant Shvartsberg was transferred to the 13thMarine Expeditionary Unit in 2019 and deployed to the Middle East as part of the SPMAGTF-CR-CC. He filled the billet of COMMSTRAT Chief and spent a portion of his deployment at the Baghdad Embassy Compound working with the Department of State. In January 2022, First Sergeant Shvartsberg was frocked to his current rank and received orders to 1stBattalion, 4thMarine Regiment where he will serve as the Bravo Company First Sergeant.

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with “C” device and 2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
