Sergeant Major, 1st Marine Division
Sergeant Major Jason K. Jones

Sergeant Major Jason K. Jones is a native of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1994.  Following recruit training he attended Infantry Training Battalion at Camp Pendleton, California, where he was assigned the MOS 0311.

In September 1994, Private First Class Jones reported to Marine Barracks Keflavik, Iceland for duty as a security guard.

In September 1995 Lance Corporal Jones reported to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  He participated in several deployments as a fire team leader, squad leader and platoon sergeant to the Mediterranean, Okinawa, Korea and Haiti.

In July of 1999 Sergeant Jones reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Sergeant Jones was assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion.

Staff Sergeant Jones reported to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, in 2002. In March 2003, he served in combat operations for Operation Iraqi Freedom I.  In July 2004, Staff Sergeant Jones was redeployed to OIF II.  In December 2004, he was combat meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

Gunnery Sergeant Jones reported to Officer Candidate School, Pensacola, Florida in 2005.  In 2007 Gunnery Sergeant Jones oversaw the command’s transition from Pensacola to Newport, Rhode Island while serving as the Chief Drill Instructor and the last class Drill Instructor in Pensacola.

In August 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Jones was promoted to First Sergeant and subsequently reported to Marine Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

In August 2011, First Sergeant Jones reported to 10th Marine Regiment, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. First Sergeant Jones served with 5th Battalion, 10th Marines; 3rd Battalion, 10th Marines; and Security Cooperation Task Force 12.

In June 2013, Sergeant Major Jones was promoted to his current rank. Sergeant Major Jones served as the Inspector-Instructor 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines and the Battalion Sergeant Major 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

In January 2017, Sergeant Major Jones was assigned as the Sergeant Major of 8th Marine Regiment. In January 2018, Sergeant Major Jones deployed as the Task Force Southwest Sergeant Major in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel executing NATO’s Resolute Support Mission.

In July 2019, Sergeant Major Jones was assigned as the Sergeant Major of 2d Marine Logistics Group.

In April 2021, Sergeant Major Jones assumed his current position as Sergeant Major of 1st Marine Division.

Sergeant Major Jones’s personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
