Lieutenant Colonel Holt received his commission through the Platoon Leaders Class. Second Lieutenant Holt reported to 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment in January 2005 and served as a Rifle Platoon Commander during their deployment to Ramadi in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon returning from deployment, First Lieutenant Holt remained with 1/5 and served as a Rifle Company XO during a deployment to Okinawa in support of the 31st MEU.
In August 2007 First Lieutenant Holt reported to the Basic School, where he served as an instructor for three years. After the Basic School, Captain Holt reported to Expeditionary Warfare School as a student, graduating in March 2011.
Upon graduation from Expeditionary Warfare School, Captain Holt reported to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment and assumed command of H&S Company and duties as Afghan National Army Kandak Advisor. He deployed to Marjah, Afghanistan in June 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In March 2012 Captain Holt assumed command of India Company, 3/6 and deployed to Okinawa in 2013 in support of the Unit Deployment Program. In 2014 Captain Holt assumed duties as Operations Officer, Battalion Landing Team 3/6 and promoted to major. He deployed with BLT 3/6 on the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit in December 2014.
Following the 24th MEU, Major Holt served as XO and MOI of NROTC, University of Utah from June 2015 to June 2018. In summer 2017, he augmented OCS as a Company Commander.
After NROTC duty, Major Holt attended the School of Advanced Warfighting in Quantico, VA, followed by duty as a Plans Officer in the G-3 at 1st Marine Division from August 2019 until January 2021.
Lieutenant Colonel Holt’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
