Commanding Officer, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines
Lieutenant Colonel Glenn P. Baker

Glenn Baker enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 17 and was assigned as a 1371, Combat Engineer.  Following school, he was assigned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion.  Following his assignment  there, he transferred to the Marine Reserve while he attended the Citadel.  After graduation, he commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.

After completing The Basic School and Infantry Officer’s Course, he was assigned to the Fleet Marine Forces, where he completed 7 deployments to Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom with Infantry, Reconnaissance, and Special Operations Units.

Then Major Baker reported to Expeditionary Warfare School, where he served as a Faculty Advisor developing the curriculum for Special Operations Forces integration and occupational field expansion course.  He also served as the lead instructor for the Amphibious Operations Course and the Marine Air-Ground Task Force Operations Course.   

After completing his assignment at Expeditionary Warfare School, Major Baker was assigned to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, where he formed and deployed Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Peru to the SOUTHCOM Area of Responsibility.  He was then promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and assigned as the Operations Officer for Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command 19.2.  

Lieutenant Colonel Baker returned from that deployment to serve as the I MEF, G-7 Advisor Training Branch Officer In Charge. In January 2022, he assumed command of 2d Battalion, 1st Marines. He currently serves as the unit’s Commanding Officer.
