Sergeant Major, 1st Reconaissance Battalion
Sergeant Major George Hernandez

Sergeant Major Hernandez enlisted in the Marine Corps on 29 March 2000 and attended Recruit Training at MCRD San Diego, California.  Upon completion he received training at Marine Combat Training School (MCT), at Camp Pendleton. Following MCT, he reported to Supply School, Camp Johnson, North Carolina and upon graduating received the MOS of 3043.    

In September 2000, he received orders to 1st FSSG, 1st Supply Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California. He served as Supply Admin Chief, Platoon Sergeant, and training chief for Headquarters Company.  While assigned to his unit he was promoted to the ranks of LCpl, Cpl, and Sgt Meritoriously. In December 2002, he was attached to Security Company, CSSG-15 where he served as squad leader for Operation Enduring Freedom I.  

 In August 2003, he reported to MSSG-11, 11th MEU. While assigned to his unit he was assigned the billet of Supply Administrative Chief, and Platoon Sergeant.  In July 2004, he deployed with the 11th MEU in support of Operation Enduring Freedom II. 

 In March 2005, he received orders to 4th Light Armor Reconnaissance Battalion, Inspector Instructor Staff. While assigned to his unit he served as Logistics chief. In February 2007, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant.   In January of 2008, he received Orders to Drill Instructor School 2-08, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Upon completing Drill Instructor School he was assigned to 2nd Battalion, Company E, were he served as Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor.   

In June 2010, he was transferred to Instructor Staff, Drill Instructor School MCRD, San Diego, California. During this time he held the billets of Instructor and Chief Instructor.    In January 2011, he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant. In September 2011 he was selected as the Regimental Drill Master.    

In June 2012, he received Orders to 1st MLG, CLR-15, 1st Supply Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California. In September 2012 he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 12.1, there he served as the operations chief for Combat Logistic Company.   In March 2014 he received orders to Marine Aviation Detachment China Lake; where he served as the detachment First Sergeant.

In June 2015 he received orders to 2d Battalion, 1st Marines where he served as the Weapons Co First Sergeant and as the Headquarters and Service First Sergeant. During this period he deployed with BLT 2/1, 13th MEU and on a unit deployment program to Okinawa. In June 2018 he received orders to SOI west, MCT Bn, Fox Co.

In March 2019, he was assigned to serve as the Marine Air Control Squadron-1 Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Hernandez’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal with 2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal with 1 gold star in lieu of 2d award.
