Sergeant Major, 1st Combat Engineer Battalion
Sergeant Major Marshall G. Cleveland

Sergeant Major Cleveland currently serves as the battalion Sergeant Major of 1st Combat Engineer Battalion. A native from Atlanta, Georgia, he attended Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC in June 2000.

Throughout his career, Sergeant Major Cleveland has been assigned numerous duties to include watch stander, Corporal of the Guard, Sergeant of the Guard, Assistant Section Chief, Infantry Team Leader, Infantry Squad Leader, Infantry Platoon Sergeant, Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival, Marine Combat Instructor Trainer of Water Survival, Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival Course SNCOIC, Mountain Warfare Instructor, MWTC Formal Schools SNCOIC, MWTC Company Gunnery Sergeant/Company First Sergeant, SOI-West, ITB, Bravo Company Gunnery Sergeant, Company First Sergeant for Charlie Company, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion and the Maritime Raid Force and Command Element, 13th MEU and Company First Sergeant for Transportation Services Company, CLB-25. He has deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with 3rd Bn, 2nd Marines (2003), twice to Djibouti, Africa in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom with 3rd Bn, 2nd Marines (2003 & 2004), Helmand Province in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines (2010), Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines (2012) and 13th MEU (2019).

His personal awards include Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with four gold stars, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and the 2016 Jerry Coleman Award presented by the Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation.

Sergeant Major Cleveland holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Professional Aeronautics with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership with Brandman University and a Master of Science in Management with Human Resource concentration with Excelsior College. He is Married to Jessica Cleveland and they have three children; Minos, Emery and Temperance.
