Capt. Kirby W. Mills

Captain Mills serves as the Company Commander, Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA

Captain Mills was born on 22 May 1985 in Lynchburg, Virginia.  He completed his undergraduate studies at the United States Naval Academy in 2007, earning a Bachelors of Science in Economics.  He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in May 2007 and reported to The Basic School where he graduated from the Basic Officer Course 6-07 and Infantry Officer Course 3-08.

He then reported to 2d Battalion, 4th Marines in Camp Pendleton, California where he served as a Weapons Platoon Commander.  He deployed to CENTCOM in support of the Global War on Terror with Battalion Landing Team 2/4 and the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit from September 2009 to April 2010. Upon his return, Captain Mills served as the battalion’s Assistant Operations Officer.

In November 2010, Captain Mills was reassigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines and served as the Assistant Operations Officer.  He deployed to Sangin, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM from March to October 2011 where he served as a Company Advisor to the Afghan National Army.  Upon his return, Captain Mills again served as a battalion assistant operations officer.

In June 2012, Captain Mills reported to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia, and in August 2012, he was selected to be the Aide-De-Camp to the Deputy Commanding General, Marine Corps Combat Development Command.  Upon completion of that assignment Captain Mills returned to The Basic School as the Patrolling Primary and Warfighting Instructor in July 2013. Captain Mills served as the Staff Platoon Commander for 2nd Platoon, Charlie Company 3-14 from March to September 2014 and as the Testing and Evaluations Officer in the Academics Group until August 2015.

Captain Mills is a recent distinguished graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School and is a member of the All-Marine Running Team. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, two gold stars in lieu of third award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
