Chaplain Johnson was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and went to high school in Las Vegas, NV. He enlisted in the United States Navy in December 2008 where he attended Basic Training in Great Lakes, IL and Yeoman Basic School in Meridian, MS.
From May 2009 to December 2012, YNSN Johnson served his first and only tour of duty at Assault Craft Unit 5 (ACU-5), at Camp Pendleton, CA. He served as an Administrative Clerk, Maintenance Yeoman and Commanding Officer’s Secretary. There he advanced from YNSN to YN2 and received an Honorable Discharge.
He received a bachelor’s degree in Youth Ministry from Cascade College in 2005. After the Navy, he pursued his Master of Divinity at Azusa Pacific University, graduating in 2016. During that time, he was also a full-time Youth Minister at the North County Church of Christ in Escondido, CA. Chaplain Johnson received a commission from the Navy as an Ensign in June 2015 through the Chaplain Candidate Program Office (CPPO). In April 2017, as a LTJG, Chaplain Johnson reported to Navy Chaplain School in Columbia, South Carolina.

 
Chaplain Johnson reported to 1STMARDIV in May 2017 and was assigned to 1st Battalion 11th Marines.
