Executive Officer, 1st LAR Battalion
Maj A. O. Navia

Major Navia was raised in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in history. Following completion of The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course in Quantico, VA, Second Lieutenant Navia reported for duty to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment in 29 Palms, CA. While with 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, he deployed twice as part of Battalion Landing Team 2/7 with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit based out of Okinawa, Japan and once as part of Task Force 2/7 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 12.2 in Helmand Provence, Afghanistan.

In 2013, Captain Navia reported to Commander, U.S. SIXTH Fleet and Commander U.S. Naval Forces Europe & Africa, in Naples, Italy and was assigned as an exercise planner for north and east Africa. In 2014, he assumed the role of the Fleet's Amphibious Ready Group/ Marine Expeditionary Unit (ARG/MEU) planner, coordinating port visits, exercises, and theater security cooperation events for transiting ARG/MEUs within the SIXTH Fleet Area of Responsibility.

In 2016, Captain Navia reported for duty to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment and assumed command of Company K. He commanded “Knightmare” Company while deployed in support of the Battalion's Forward Deployed Battalion - East (FDB-E) rotation to Okinawa, Japan. Upon return from the FDB-E deployment, Captain Navia assumed command of Weapons Company and the role of the Battalion's Fire Support Coordinator. In 2018, he again deployed with 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines to Setermoen, Norway as part of Marine Rotational Forces - Europe.

In 2019, Major Navia was selected as a Marine Corps Congressional Fellow and transferred to the Office of Legislative Affairs at Headquarters Marine Corps. In 2020, he assumed the duties of a Congressional Fellow and Military Legislative Assistant to Congressman Mac Thornberry (R-TX), the Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee. Upon completion of his fellowship, Major Navia served as the Office of Legislative Affairs Liaison Officer to the Deputy Commandant for Combat Development and Integration, in Quantico, VA.

In 2023, Major Navia assumed his current role as the Executive Officer of 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. Major Navia also holds a master's degree in public policy from George Mason University and has the secondary MOSs of 0510, Information Operations Officer and 8018, Congressional Marine Liaison Officer.
