The Flame of Eternal Life, signifying that the Marines who have paid the ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten, the Purple Heart Medal, which signifies bloodshed and loss of life on the battlefield, and unmarked identification tags, which could bear the names of any Marine at any time lay on a table during 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 1’s celebration of the Marine Corps’ 233rd birthday at Camp Ramadi, Iraq. Iraqi Police were in attendance and Ramadi Mayor Latif Obaid Iyada al Chulaybawi was the guest of honor at the ceremony.
