Locals of Garmsir district, Helmand province, Afghanistan, watch a group of US diplomats walk to the Garmsir District Center with a security entourage of Marines, Afghan National Army soldiers and Afghan National police, Feb. 21, to participate in a security and stability shura with Afghan officials. The US diplomats included Karl W. Eikenberry, the US ambassador to Afghanistan, and Senators Bob Corker, Tennesee; Bernie Sanders, Vermont; Joe Manchin, West Virginia; and Christopher Coons, Delaware. Afghan representatives included Mir Hamza, the national director of security; Gulab Mangal, the provincial governor of Helmand province; Omar Jahn, the local Aghan National Police chief; and Lt. Col. Hezbollah, the commanding officer of the local Afghan National Army kandak. Col. David Furness, the commanding officer of Regimental Combat Team 1, and Lt. Col. Matthew Reid, the commanding officer of 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, also attended
