Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division dominates field meet.
GULF OF ADEN (Dec. 12, 2016) U.S. Marines with the Maritime Raid Force (MRF), 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), hook and climb a ladder on to an unknown vessel to conduct a visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) mission during Exercise Alligator Dagger, Dec. 12. The MRF and special amphibious reconnaissance corpsmen provide the MEU with capabilities such as ship-borne and airborne raids, reconnaissance, and VBSS. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and 11th MEU are operating in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts to ensure the free flow of commerce, freedom of navigation and regional security. Maritime security operations complement counterterrorism and security efforts of regional nations and seek to disrupt violent extremists’ use of the maritime environment as a venue to launch attacks or to transport personnel, weapons or other material. Exercise Alligator Dagger, a U.S. 5th Fleet exercise, is a sustainment exercise enabling Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and 11th MEU to rehearse complex amphibious operations that keep their skills ready for crisis response and contingency operations throughout the Central Command area of responsibility. Exercise Alligator Dagger enhances the Navy-Marine Corps team’s ability to be a flexible, adaptable and persistent force, which leads to a more stable region in the 5th Fleet area of operations. ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. – Maxine Russell shows a photograph of her son. What started as a gesture of support for troops turned into building a legacy for her deceased son. For nearly 30 years Maxine has sent more than 7,200 care packages, adopted military families for the holiday’s, and volunteers her time as a grief counselor to veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress, all in the name of her son Darren “White Rabbit” Russell.
