Camp Pendleton, Calif. – Marines and Sailors from the 1st Marine Division will conduct Exercise Steel Knight 2021 (SK-21), a complex, combined live-fire exercise from November 30 – December 18, 2020, throughout multiple locations in Southern California and the Pacific Ocean, to include Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Pendleton and the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. The exercise will also include a naval fleet component, led by Expeditionary Strike Group THREE (ESG-3), entitled Dawn Blitz 21 (DB-21).
SK/DB-21 will train Division units and staff by refining processes for planning and command and control (C2) in order to fight and win against a peer or near-peer adversary during major combat operations. Additionally, the exercise will certify ESG-3 as a Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet amphibious force.
As our annual capstone training event, SK/DB-21 provides 1st Marine Division and ESG-3 an opportunity to demonstrate its already high level of readiness and increase joint participation to create momentum towards an integrated and effective naval force.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person media opportunities will be limited. However, virtual interviews can be arranged upon request, and photos and B-roll footage from the exercise will be available at the 1st Marine Division DVIDS page at dvidshub.net/unit/1md and across 1st Marine Division official social media pages.
For questions about the exercise, or for requests for interview, members of the media are encouraged to contact 1st. Lt. Cameron Edinburgh, at cameron.edinburgh@usmc.mil or 760-725-1129.
