SgtMaj David M. Elliott Sergeant Major, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines

Sergeant Major Elliott enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1998 and attended recruit training aboard MCRD Parris Island.  Upon graduation, he completed Military Police School in Fort McClellan, AL and was assigned the MOS of 5811.


From July 1998-December 2001, he was assigned to MWSS-274, H&HS, and MWSS-272 for duty as a Military Policeman.  During his assignment, he served as a patrolman, special reaction team member, and security chief, and was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant.


In January 2002, Sergeant Elliott reported to Drill Instructor School, MCRD Parris Island.  Upon graduation, he completed the Martial Arts Instructor Course and was assigned to Co H, 2RTBN.  He was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant and served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Series Gunnery Sergeant from March 2002-February 2005.  


In May 2005, Staff Sergeant Elliott reported to Co A, 2ndMP Bn, MCB Camp Lejeune.  In June 2005, he was assigned to CLB-8 and deployed ISO OIF 4.06 from August 2005-February 2006.  There, he served as a section leader and the Operations Chief.  In September 2006, Staff Sergeant Elliott was assigned to CLB-6 and deployed ISO OIF 06.08 from March-September 2007.  There, he served as Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Commander, and Operations Chief and was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in April 2007.


In November 2007, Gunnery Sergeant Elliott reported to PMO, HQBN, MCB Camp Lejeune, where he served as Watch Commander and Training Chief from November 2007-April 2009. 


In May 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Elliott reported to Co B, OCS, MCB Quantico for assignment as Sergeant Instructor.  After completing a 10 week cycle, Gunnery Sergeant Elliott completed his transfer to the U.S. Naval Academy for assignment as Assistant Marine Officer Instructor (AMOI).  From August 2009-April 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Elliott served as the Senior Enlisted Leader for 4th Co. 


In April 2011, he was promoted to First Sergeant and was assigned as the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant, Co B, 1stBn, 25thMar, Londonderry, NH.


In January 2014, First Sergeant Elliott reported to 1stBn, 3dMar where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Weapons Company, Headquarters and Service Company, and Bravo Company.  There, he participated in two Unit Deployment Programs to Okinawa, Japan.


In August 2016, Sergeant Major Elliott was promoted and assumed his position as the Sergeant Major of Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367. 


In August 2018, Sergeant Major Elliott assumed his current position as the Sergeant Major of 2d Battalion 1st Marines.


His personal awards include: Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/silver star in lieu of sixth award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/gold star in lieu of fourth award, and Combat Action Ribbon.
