James Bruce was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 11, 1985.  He graduated from J.J. Pearce High School in December of 2003, and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot , San Diego in June 2004. Upon completion of recruit training in August of 2004, Private Bruce attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton ,CA.  After graduating in October 2004, he was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 1833,  Assault Amphibian Crewman.  Private First Class Bruce reported to  Assault Amphibian School Battalion  Camp Pendleton , CA  where he attended the Basic Crewman Course.  Upon graduation in December of 2004, Private First Class Bruce received orders to report to 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion an assigned to Echo Company. While with Echo Company Lance Corporal Bruce went on to deployed twice with the 13th  Marine Expeditionary Unit  to Iraq from 2005 to 2007. Upon returning Lance Corporal Bruce was promoted to the rank of  Corporal. In December 2008, Corporal Bruce was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and received order to Weapons Field Training Battalion to hold the billet as a field instructor. In 2010 Sergeant Bruce returned to 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion  as a section leader. In July 2011, Sergeant Bruce received orders to report to Basic Recruiters Course. Upon completion Sergeant Bruce was assigned to Recruiting Station Sacramento and worked out of RSS Redding, CA. While on recruiting duty Sergeant Bruce was selected to the rank of Staff Sergeant and promoted in December 2013. Upon completion  of a successful tour on recruiting duty Staff Sergeant Bruce received orders to return  to 3D Assault Amphibian Battalion. Once Staff Sergeant Bruce checked in he was placed with Alpha Company. While a part of Alpha Company Staff Sergeant  Bruce deployed in May 2016 with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and returned in November 2016. Currently, Staff sergeant Bruce is holding the billet of Family Readiness officer for 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion.
