Sergeant Major Chad L. Miller

Sergeant Major Chad L. Miller was born in Cortland, NY. He entered the United States Marine Corps in 1999 and graduated from recruit training Parris Island, SC in September of 1999.  Upon graduating he reported to Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, NC.  He then went on to Field Radio Operators Course and Communication Center Operators Course at Twentynine Palms, CA. 

During March of 2000, Private First Class Miller reported to 8th Communications Battalion, Second Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC, serving as a Radio Operator with Support Company until June 2003.

In June 2003, Sergeant Miller reported to Recruiting Station Orlando, FL, 6th Marine Corps District.  He was promoted to Staff Sergeant on August 2004 and served as A-Gunner for Recruiting Substation Cocoa, FL.  

During July 2006, Staff Sergeant Miller reported to Communications Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 37, Third Marine Logistics Group, Okinawa, Japan.  There he served as the Radio Chief, Communications Chief and Company Gunnery Sergeant, attaining the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in November of 2008.  In March 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Miller reported to Camp Schwab for an Individual Augment with Regional Corps Advisory Command 3-7.  Assigned as Embedded Training Team 2-8’s Communications Chief, he deployed to Kunar Province, Afghanistan from July 2009 to April 2010.

In August 2010, Gunnery Sergeant Miller reported to Headquarters Battery, 5th Battalion, 10th Marines, Second Marine Division as the Battalion Radio Chief.  While with Headquarters Battery, he also held the billets of Battalion Communications Chief and Headquarters Battery First Sergeant.  In 2012 he assisted with 5/10’s disbandment and then received orders to Security Cooperation Task Force, Africa Partnership Station-12 (SCTF, APS-12).  As Communications Chief for SCTF, he deployed to the Mediterranean aboard the USS Fort McHenry in support of Operation Jukebox Lotus, following the September 11th attacks on the US Embassy in Libya.

In January 2013, First Sergeant Miller received orders to 2nd Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Special Operations Command.  First Sergeant Miller deployed in support of OEF as Hotel Company’s First Sergeant and the AOB First Sergeant for Special Operations Task Force-West from October 2013 to June 2014.  In May 2015 First Sergeant Miller reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, where he served as the Squadron First Sergeant for Aviation Maintenance Squadron 1, Marine Aviation Training Support Group 23. In July 2018 First Sergeant Miller reported to Company D, 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion, Twentynine Palms, CA.

In February 2019, Sergeant Major Miller was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major, receiving orders to 3d Battalion 7th Marines where he now serves.

His personal awards include the Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Device, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device (fourth award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
